Zoloft For Teenagers
Depression is a disease which can be experienced during adulthood or teenage years. It is known that teenagers are more sensitive to many things. It happens due to their so-called “awkward age”. 14-17 is the age of gradual growing-up and in this period a lot of things become more clear for teens.
Use of antidepressants in adolescents has increased in the last decade despite of a lack of information on the drugs’ safety and effectiveness in kids.
Now as a result amongst researches there are two opinions about the effectiveness of antidepressant use, and especially Zoloft. A study in last week’s Journal of the American Medical Assn. found that 69% of depressed teenagers taking the drug sertraline, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor sold under the name Zoloft, responded well to the drug and without major side effects. Other group of researchers stick to the position that the use of Zoloft in teenagers may increase the symptoms of depression state. However, it depends of the severity of these symptoms and on general health condition of a patient.
Zoloft has a wide spectrum of action It can be used to deal with generalized depressive disorders, anxiousness, post-traumatic tension condition, obsessive-compulsive condition, premenstrual dysphoric condition, bipolar condition, as well as panic attacks. Zoloft belongs to those few antidepressants that does not pass into breast milk, in nurturing mothers.
